Revenue Executioners: Newbie Web Developers Can Kill SEO Search Engine Optimization | June 24, 2013 | By Aaron Schoenberger

There are times in life when we have good intentions and try our best, but things just don’t turn out as planned. When it comes to businesses looking to refresh their online identity and increase revenue, hiring the wrong web designer can produce catastrophic results.

Last week I was on a conference call with a public company that had hired a designer to revamp their website to feature all of the products they manufacture, distribute, and sell online. Unfortunately the designer switched to a new platform and all of the URLs changed, which ultimately killed the company’s ranking in search engines. To make matters worse, redirects weren’t setup and the few visitors being sent from search engines landed on pages that no longer exist.

Before making any changes to a website, it’s important for businesses to consult with their marketing team and/or bring in an SEO consultant. It’s much easier to strategize and prevent issues from occurring as opposed to having an epic failure and scrambling to find a solution after damage has been done.
