It’s now September, and the holiday season is quickly approaching. With the economy still in the toilet, most of you business owners are thinking: what can I do to market my business during the holiday season, but not break the bank? Well, the answer is a simple one — internet marketing.
Not only is internet marketing one of the most cost-efficient forms of marketing, it is also extremely effective. The internet allows you, the business owner, to directly and representatively reach your target market with ease. In this day and age, fully understanding the internet’s true potential is key to success.
For holiday marketing, I always suggest marketing in a reverse fashion. Instead of mailing potential customers a postcard, which will sit alongside the other 500 they’ve received, I analyze their wants and needs. What do potential customers want? Which of my products will sell best? I then target keywords through search engine optimization (SEO), viral videos, blog posts, press releases, and much more.
If you’re looking to market your business for Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or any other holiday, consider the below options:
1) Search Engine Optimization
Target specific keywords and phrases on your website and in online marketing material. Simply said, make it so potential customers, when looking for something specific, land on your website. Page titles are an excellent place to start.
2) Viral Videos
Videos are an excellent way to market products using the internet. Create a short (1-3 min) clip on a specific product or service, then load the video on YouTube and other video websites. Be sure the video is enticing and of decent quality. I myself use a Nikon D90 to shoot videos of products, promotions, restaurants, events, etc.
3) Blog Posts + Articles
Writing an article or blog post on a specific product or service is very beneficial. Content ranks well in search engines and, as SEO pros say, “content is king.”
4) Banner Advertisements
Creating and placing banner ads on targeted websites is a great way to increase online exposure, traffic, and sales. For example, sponsoring or advertising on a high-traffic forum (message board) that pertains to your product/service, will attract attention and induce sales.
I hope this information has been helpful and kick butt this holiday season!
