First Lady Michelle Obama and the White House Executive Chef, Cristeta Comerford, starred in the Super Chef Battle of Iron Chef America, which aired tonight. I have to say — it was an excellent episode and full of top talent.
The dishes prepared in the battle utilized ingredients found in the White House garden, which Michelle Obama strives to keep organic and pesticide-free. Being a green person myself, I enjoyed this aspect of the show in particular.
The highly talented White House chef is a classic example of the American Dream. Born in the Philippines, Chef Comerford migrated to the United States at the age of 23 and landed her first job at a Sheraton hotel near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. She worked hard for many years and decided to move to Washington D.C. where she was a chef at two restaurants. In 1995, Walter Scheib III recruited Cristeta Comerford to work in the Clinton White House. When he resigned in 2005, Chef Commerford was promoted to Executive Chef of the White House by First Lady Laura Bush.
For all Food Network and Iron Chef enthusiasts, or foodies in general, be sure to watch the Super Chef Battle!
