The time has come for my baby – Penelope – to receive an engine rebuild, which is quite exciting. She’s a 1999 Mustang Cobra, with only 53,000 miles on the clock, and I will be upgrading to a forged short block from Muscle Motors Performance (MMP) and will have it installed by my good friend Danny at Ghost Motorsports.
After months of pondering, I have finally made my decision: 5.0 stroker short block with all forged internals which will be assembled by Edios Rios of Muscle Motors Performance. I currently have a 4.6 DOHC Cobra motor, which came stock in the car, but I’m upgrading to the forged 5.0 stroker so I can match it with a nice turbo kit. Displacement + turbo kit = fun times.
The short block houses a variety of goodies including:
- Manley Platinum Series Pistons
- Manley 4340 Forged “H” Beam Rods
- Kellogg 4340 Forged 3.750 Stroke Crankshaft
- Federal Mogul Race Rod + Main Bearings
- Ford Racing 4.6 Romeo Iron Block
- Manley/Total Seal Plasma Moly File Fit Rings
Ghost Motorsports will be swapping my heads, etc. onto the shortblock and will complete the build. I will then have it tuned and should be off to the races, so to speak.
Throughout the build, I will take photos and videos, which I will share with everyone. I know all of you Mustang and drag racing fanatics will enjoy this.
Thank you again to Muscle Muscle Performance (Jack Abraham + Eddie Rios) and Danny at Ghost Motorsports. You’re awesome!
Lastly, a big thank you to Scott Monty for inspiring me to keep the car and build it further. His knowledge/efforts have helped Ford tremendously and the community thanks him.
Stay tuned for updates!
Sincerely,
