Of all companies spanning the globe, Nike has remained a leader when it comes to producing catchy, targeted, successful television commercials. Unlike a majority of companies that have very successful commercials here and there, Nike’s track record is quite impressive with a long lineage of profitable advertising campaigns.
To feed off of the World Cup craze and further Nike’s success, the company has released a new commercial coined “Write the Future” that features a slew of renown soccer players including: Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Landon Donovan and Ronaldinho. The icing on the cake was the addition of cameos by Kobe Bryant, Roger Federer and of all people Homer Simpson (yes, I personify some cartoons).
I was surprised to see YouTube and Facebook shown in the commercial, which demonstrates the fact that Nike is making a push to utilize social media channels. In the past, the notion of spending big bucks on commercials and allocating even a few seconds to social media mentions was ludicrous in the eyes of many. Finally more advertising executives are coming around. All I can say is: I told you so.
