Ryan Sheckler’s ‘Skate for a Cause’ Charity Event = Huge Success
May 30, 2010Aaron SchoenbergerBusiness News

Yesterday I had a blast at Ryan Sheckler’s ‘Skate for a Cause’ charity event, which was created to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The atmosphere at the event was overwhelmingly positive and, all in all, I really respect what Ryan Sheckler and the other skaters did. Stepping up to the plate (or shall I say rail) to make a difference for mankind is quite commendable and I thank you.

This was the first year of the event, and I am glad to see it was a big success. Hundreds of fans crowded the Etnies Skate Park in Lake Forrest, California to see their idols perform. And, unlike most celebrity events, the Skate for a Cause contest provided a very personal, almost surreal experience. Professional skaters were interacting with the crowd, signing skateboards and passing water bottles through the fence. There was no Hollywoodesque vibe and everyone was there to simply enjoy awesome skateboarding and support an important cause — the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Ryan Sheckler did an excellent job in organizing the skateboarding community for the event, which was evident by the fact that many of the world’s top skaters attended. The list of confirmed skaters included: Brandon Biebel, Chris Cole, Colin McKay, Danny Way, Devine Calloway, Eric Koston, Fabrizio Santos, Greg Lutzka, Joey Brezinski, Jose Rojo, Kurtis Colamonico, Kyle Leeper, Mike Mo Capaldi, Mikey Taylor, Pat Duffy, Paul Rodriguez, PJ Ladd, Rob Dyrdek, Ryan Sheckler, Scott DeCenzo, Sean Malto, Tony Tave, Torey Pudwill, Tyler Bledsoe and Zered Bassett.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the cause! Let’s all ban together, spread the Skate for a Cause charity event throughout the internet, and make the 2011 Skate for a Cause show 10x more successful. We can dooooo iiiiiiit! May the force be with us.

To support the Sheckler Foundation, please visit their awesome website and either make a donation or grab a slick Sheckler Foundation hat/skateboard — http://www.shecklerfoundation.org

Please find some of the photos I shot below. I am in the process of editing the videos and will be posting them shortly so stay tuned. You can also follow me on Twitter (http://twitter.com/BrainchildGroup) to receive an update when I post new content.

I look forward to next year!
