One of the most-watched TV events — the World Cup — has managed to succeed in infiltrating the social media world by dominating Twitter and other social networks.
As opposed to the past, the World Cup soccer event is gaining more online momentum than on television, and many are flocking to the internet for updates on plays, victories/defeats, and game highlights. Currently the following keywords are dominating Google Trends and all pertain to the 2010 World Cup: Robert Enke, German national anthem, Lukas Padolski, German soccer team, Germany Australia World Cup, Miroslav Klose and Mesut Ozil.
What does this mean? Well, as you can see, everything is going online. In 10 years I predict everyone will be watching the World Cup via the internet (Apple TV, Google TV, etc.). It’s inevitable, it truly is.
Enjoy the games today!
Sincerely,
