This article is for all of you internet marketers out there — Social Media gurus, SEO pros and SEM wizards. It’s a call to action: Get off your bum and fully populate your profiles on social websites. I know you’re busy working on the spaceship, your dog unplugged the computer, Chuck Norris kicked down your door or some other convoluted shenanigans, but it’s no excuse.
Take a few hours to login to social sites of which you’re a member and do some spring cleaning. Search for sections of your profile that can be improved upon and go to town. For example, I have an account on most social networks/websites and had initially signed up for them in haste. But, after spending time exploring the sites and actually learning them I realized my downfalls. On many sites I failed to include my website address, my blog address, my Twitter account, etc. These are all very important areas of a profile and, as a marketing professional, I’m surprised I missed these linking opportunities (at first muahahaah). Now, 5+ years later, I must use myself as an example of what not to do.
Moral of the story: Don’t be a lazy social media or SEO “pro-fesh-un-al.” Get it (populating a profile) done right the first time and you will be happy you did.
