In the past few months I have noticed a large influx of SEO companies contacting our agency — The Brainchild Group — to provide SEO services. It has come to the point where I need to write an article and vent.

Please find 3 sales tips for SEO companies below:
1) If you are going to proactively research and contact a company to provide SEO services, you better know who you’re dealing with. For example, why would our company hire an exterior SEO company that has elementary results compared to what we have achieved? I mean, cummon now, it makes no sense. We rank on the first page of Google for extremely competitive keywords (50 million+ results) and trying to sell us by emailing stats for localized, niche, easy keywords that return less than a million results is laughable. I don’t mean to be harsh, but SEO companies should do their due diligence before shooting off sales calls/emails.

2) Do not, as true SEO professionals know, guarantee results. Unless you are Google, Bing or Yahoo, this isn’t possible. Guaranteeing results, when competing against other highly qualified SEO companies, is like saying you will beat Chuck Norris in a fist fight. It just doesn’t happen.

3) If an SEO company has their heart set on proactively contacting companies instead of relying on the marketing medium they themselves are selling (SEO), a good idea is to contact businesses that aren’t competitors. With millions of restaurants, hotels, law firms, doctors, spas, e-commerce websites, etc. in the world, who had the ingenious idea of selling SEO services to other SEO companies? Sounds like grounds for a hazardously low conversion rate if you ask me.

Now that I have vented, I feel mucho better. What a relief.
