Following up to a previous article on the Xbox Kinect commercials titled Xbox 360 Kinect Ad Campaign Transforms Video Game Stereotype, Microsoft has announced very positive sales numbers, and it looks like their marketing efforts are truly paying off.
According to the computer/electronics giant, they have sold a whopping 2.5 million Kinect sensors and are on track to hit their goal of 5 million units by the year end. Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment division, stated: “We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect. We are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand.”
With internet TV on the rise, rumors are floating around about Microsoft possibly becoming a “virtual cable operator” where they would provide access to major television networks for a set monthly fee. I think this is an ingenious move, and will greatly boost sales of the Xbox Kinect bundle and Kinect sensor.
