One of the most important questions I’m asked on a daily basis, which I feel compelled to share, is: How will I know that social media efforts are paying off? Good question grasshoppas; very good.
When launching a Social Media Marketing (SMM) campaign it’s important to understand ROI, but first you must understand the medium’s inner workings. Fortunately, I’m here to help you with that.
First and foremost, success doesn’t happen overnight and Rome wasn’t built in a day. Social marketing requires just that — being social. You can’t jump aboard the bandwagon and expect to immediately shine. You must polish your appearance until, at a certain point, you glisten. Like a mirror signal from a distant mountaintop, potential customers will see you from miles away and they — mark my word — will come.
Secondly, once a level of influence/authority is established, monetization of social marketing efforts will initially come in the form of Retweets, Likes, trackbacks, Diggs, Stumbles and other actions, then will progress to actual sales. In essence, you’re first building a reputation and level of trust.
Upon reaching exposure zen, businesses will experience increased website traffic, third party mentions on social sites and finally increased revenue. Companies will know when they hit the social jackpot.
