I love my family, friends, my cat (Shrimpy), and — as oddly as it may sound — my mobile device. My iPhone has been with me through thick and thin: it wakes me up in the morning, finds me lunch, sucks in text messages from twisted friends, then puts me to sleep at night. It’s my tech-infused prosthetic and #1 marketing tool.
In this day and age, people have an overwhelming want for current, up-to-date information that is, often times, shared with mobile phones. Due to such, mobile devices have become a social media marketer’s best friend.
Yesterday, I spoke at Social: The New Media, a social media event by CBS that took place at the Avalon in Hollywood, and was amazed to see a large number of attendees poking away at their phones for hours. If it wasn’t a social media-related event I’d feel like a boring fellow, but in fact I was inspired.
All in all, it’s exciting to be able to communicate with millions of people around the world via a handheld device, especially when such communications are the bread and butter of large scale marketing campaigns. A social media marketer with no phone is like a soldier with no gun. That = disaster.
