Do you have an overwhelming urge to “make any room a TV room?” To stream live television on your iPad wherever you are in the house? If so, you may want to brace yourself for the good news.
Time Warner Cable has released a new iPad app that allows customers to watch live TV free of charge while using authorized cable modems. By authorized I assume they’re referring to cable modems powered by Time Warner Cable, which serves two purposes:
- Attracts more cable modem customers.
- Puts the Time Warner Cable versus DirectTV battle to rest. Can you watch DirectTV on your iPad? No way, Jose.
From an advertising perspective, the release of an iPad app is excellent news for large brands that dump millions of dollars into television commercials. In light of services like Netflix stealing viewers, and social media owning the world, there’s truly hope for TV ads. I never thought I’d say that.
I’m curious to see if the Time Warner Cable app offers the ability to connect social networking accounts in the future. It would be in their best interest, and the networks’, to provide a fluid medium for sharing. Think about it this way: If you love a television show and want to tell your Twitter followers, you must manually input the Tweet; maybe even find a clip on YouTube. Somewhat of a pain in the tookus. Maybe this will all change, especially if the networks jump on board.
All in all, I’m proud to say that I’m a Time Warner Cable customer and have been with them for close to 10 years. Now I just need a darn iPad — anyone buying?
Check out the below commercial from Time Warner Cable that shows their new iPad app in all its glory. Pretty cool if you ask me.
