Writing an interesting, informative, catchy blog post is a daunting task for many, and creating a Twitter bio seems almost impossible. Condensing everything a company has to say in 160 characters is like moonwalking upside down, but it can be done.
The question is: How the heck can you describe your mission, add a personal vibe, then finish with an interesting twist? Social media marketing is all about building digital relationships, and Twitter bios must inform viewers while simultaneously engaging them. That is the key.
Typically I help companies wordsmith Twitter bios as part of social media projects, though the other day I was surprisingly contacted for one reason alone: to write a company’s Twitter bio. This peeked my interest and I was first going to concoct a guide on writing Twitter bios, but when I really think about it, each individual/company is different. More importantly, established businesses can’t afford to toy with their Twitter account, so updates must be made once and made right. Constantly changing Twitter bios shows inconsistency and indecisiveness, which can be a turnoff to customers.
My suggestion is for companies to hire a social media consultant to collaborate on a Twitter bio. Skip the period of trial/error and hit the ground running.
