Google’s search engine results have always been about delivering the best information and user experiences possible which is how they got to where they are today, and with all of the mystical ideas surrounding search engine optimization (SEO) sometimes it’s best to go back to the roots…
When it comes to SEO for hotels whether it’s a boutique hotel in an epic location (Fiji, Greece, Israel, Las Vegas, Maldives, NYC, etc.) or a global hotel chain, there are two things you must do from an internet marketing perspective: Deliver cool, helpful content and engage guests or potential guests in the moment. The recipe is quite simple, though often overlooked.
Looking at blog posts on a basic level and behaviors you’ve likely exhibited yourself, imagine booking a trip to Australia and staying at a cool hotel in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or even having the wild idea to travel to the Outback. You either booked it based on local attractions or after booking the room will then research things to do in the area. And that’s the golden ticket for hotels.
Similar to social media influencer marketing, hotels need to be influencers in Google’s search results and rank on top. Someone booking a hotel room in Melbourne may also be interested in local museums, top restaurants and other destinations that you have the power to educate them on. That’s where crafting helpful, interesting blog posts on your hotel’s website comes into play – capturing new interest based on keywords/searches you could’ve never predicted.
Think about having the ability to toss costly ads and other semi-effective forms of internet marketing out the window and focus more on answering peoples’ questions, adding value in some way and building a rapport then sales will follow.
The moral of the story is that blog posts are more important today than ever before, especially with Google rolling out their new MUM algorithm, and if your hotel isn’t blogging today you have to get your butt in gear because there’s a storm coming.
