For nearly 20 years since the early days of social media marketing we have guided the biggest companies in the world, though today things have become skewed in a variety of ways and we wanted to drop this blog post highlighting what’s working now and also what’s not – like a company that jumps on a trend to hopefully become relevant versus being a trendsetter to truly own the conversations as a leader.
The reason for this post is directly related to what we’ve been watching/testing on Instagram, TikTok, etc. and how many companies see certain trends take off then immediately follow them to monetize that path, though they’re all jumping on a bandwagon that’s being duplicated by hundreds of thousands if not millions of others each day.
Looking at the trends and social media marketing behaviors, yes it makes sense to tap into them if you’re a neighborhood restaurant, yoga studio or other local business that’s trying to put yourself out there and generate revenue by getting on the radar, but if you’re one of the top brands in the world do you want to cheapen yourself by following a micro/silly trend? No.
People and companies that create their own paths regardless of what others think/say have historically been the most successful over time whether looking at Gates, Jobs, Warren Buffet or others and social media marketing strategies for the biggest corporations in the world aren’t aimed at what’s happening now that we can attach to, but instead what are our goals that we can develop strategies around that others gravitate towards. Essentially, let’s internally develop the next social media trends.
From guiding startups in Silicon Valley that raised billions to top hedge funds and others, we’re excited for what the future holds and looking forward to more adventures.
