Over the past 20 years we have seen a lot of wins and also a lot of failures with companies we’ve guided and many times that stems from flaws with internal teams along with outside contractors like ad agencies, PR firms and others that may have dropped the ball along the way.
The reality is that as humans we’ll never be perfect, though at the same time we have to put value in the work we do and try our best, which doesn’t seem to be happening nowadays. Then the fear of AI taking over and replacing jobs always comes up that’s inherently flawed.

Tying back to the topic of this post as it relates to startups and having the right consultants/guidance from the beginning, whether you have raised money or not, you simply do not have the flexibility to lose in the early stages of a startup because it cuts into the money available to do cool stuff and move forward.
As the classic saying goes “you get what you pay for” and we can’t tell you how many times companies of all sizes ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies came to us to solve problems that derived from trying to save a buck in the beginning that created a variety of challenges/roadblocks in the future.
Most importantly, too often startups hire a wide variety of consultants to guide their journey yet 90%+ have never started a business themselves, which is a red flag from the beginning. This spans across the board.
The moral of this story = Startups and companies at all levels need to be aware of their surroundings at all times, which includes setting aside money to hire the best talent in specific areas that are worth it – and if you don’t your biggest competitors while scoop them up instead.
