We have covered this topic in the past and have to bring it to the surface again because it’s a persistent problem that needs to be addressed. Social media is named that because it’s all about being social which includes conversations between groups of people with similar interests not making posts only focused on you or your company that are self-serving while ignoring everyone else.
Going back in time after tens of thousands of hours of scrolling social media feeds (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.) we can all recognize patterns ranging from a restaurant owner being desperate/honest and posting nonstop to try and keep their dream alive by showcasing their food to others focused on the me me me approach to simply make money – which is always a recipe for disaster.
We hate to break it you, but the “if we build it they will come” mentality is out the door in favor of if you build it, people go and it sucks, you can only anticipate being roasted on social media along with reviews everywhere else (e.g. Yelp for restaurants).
Imagine following a person/company on Instagram, subscribing on YouTube or any other social engagement to watch someone’s content then you realize it’s not genuine/natural and they’re only using you to make money. How would you feel?
Well, as consumers and the general public get smarter and more tech-savvy that’s exactly what’s happening today. And the silly games of the past aren’t working.
In conclusion, and going back to the core of this post, which is a blend of what we’re seeing in the future along with roadblocks clients are facing now that we’re solving, it all comes down to understanding human behaviors on all fronts.
