Social media marketing, though doubted my some, has become the leading marketing medium in 2010 and beyond. As evidence of such, Facebook has surpassed Google as the most visited website in the world.
According to Reuters, “The social network site [Facebook] edged out Google.com with 8.9 percent of all U.S. visits between January and November 2010, while Google.com ranked second with about 7.2 percent of all visits, according to online measurement service Experian Hitwise.”
What does this mean for businesses throughout the world? Well, if they haven’t launched a social media campaign as of yet, this is a fire under their tookus.
Facebook is an integral aspect of the new age marketing approach and must be utilized on a regular basis to communicate with past, present and potential customers. Engaging customers with print ads and television commercials, yet ignoring Facebook, is grounds for a serious slap on the wrist.
With Facebook being the #1 website in the world (according to Alexa), now is the time for sluggish companies to jump start a social media marketing campaign and establish an online presence. Failure to do so will, mark my word, compromise company sustainability.
